  • Are you landscapers or arborists?

We are arborist - A tree surgeon or arboriculturist is known as an arborist, they are the professionals who practice arboriculture, which is the management, cultivation, and the study of individual vines, trees, and shrubs. It can be for any other part of perennial woody plants in horticulture and dendrology.

There are some landscapers that offer tree services, however, it is not their number one expertise.  They are more suited to providing landscaping services like, retaining walls, sod installation etc.

  • What is the recommended best time to prune or remove trees?

The perfect time for pruning your trees is during the dormant season, and it can be specified in the early spring or late fall. During this time the trees go to hibernation as their buds do not open. This time is best for tree removal, as it makes the task easier. Also, identifying the trees to be removed gets easy. Pruning your tree is the best way to effectively remove some of the issues you might experience with the trees in your lawn, such as disease.

  • What are the benefits of pruning a tree?

There are 5 benefits of pruning your home lawn trees or the woody plants that grow in your business area.

    1. Pruning of trees has the benefits woven with the health of the trees. The removal of dying, dead or diseased branches will prevent further decay. This way the trees will get more sunlight, and air circulation will improved by tree pruning. Other than this, it helps the growth of healthy, new branches and leaves.
    2. Pruning helps in the appearance of the trees. If you have a commercial property or your own home, the overgrown, and hanging branches can bring damage to the image of the place. If there are well-maintained trees, it helps to create a positive impression on potential customers, and it will show your professionalism.
    3. If the trees have not been pruned the overgrown branches give too much shade, and makes the area unsuitable for further planting. With the new pruned service, other plants will get better sunlight and air just below the woody tree.
    4. The pruning of trees reduces the chances of accidents. Unpruned trees can become a risk to nearby lines of power. Hanging and overgrown branches are also a threat to the houses beneath them, and this is especially when the weather is stormy.
    5. Pruning helps improve the shape of the young trees. This ends up in a good structure of the branches and makes up for the loss of roots. You can always add new trees to your home or your business property and let them grow the way you like with the service of tree pruning.
  • Is "topping" a tree a good idea?

Topping is an aimless cutting of tree branches to lateral or to stubs that are not big enough to get the terminal role. Topping is also done to resize the tree by reducing it.

As a homeowner, you might feel that the tree has become too big for your property, so it might have a risk. However, in this case, the topping is not a good method. The reduction of the trees will not lower the risk for the future topping will enhance the risk for the long term.

This method can remove 50% to 100% leaf of the trees from its top. As you know that the leaves produce food for a tree, and removing them from the top will make them starve and the branches will grow from just anywhere.

We recommend pruning over topping as topping the tree will weaken it leading to its eventual demise. Also, a tree that has a large wound of topping will get vulnerable to an infestation of disease and insects. The tree also might suffer from a lack of energy. So, it’s always better to prune the trees rather than topping them.

  • What is tree felling?

Felling trees is the process of cutting individual trees and this is one of the tasks of logging. The person who engages in the cutting procedure is a feller. The work of tree felling is done by preparatory work.

This work starts with an undercut on the side of the direction where the fall is and that increases to the depth of one-third to one-fourth of the diameter of the tree. After this, the tree is cut in the plane of the top edge where the undercut is. The method of tree felling prevents the splitting in trees, and it’s safe and guarantees the right direction of the fall.

  • What precautions do you take when removing trees near power lines?

Every precaution is taken when we need to tackle a project near power lines. To ensure safety of our our tree technicians we make it mandatory for all of them to wear personal protective equipment.  This includes gloves, hearing protection, safety glasses, helmets and fall protection and rescue equipment.

Prior to starting the job a thorough pre-assessment of the tree and surroundings is completed. We do not use conductive tools near power lines, ensure there is adequate distance from the power lines and always ensure that our technicians work in pairs to support each other.

  • Does the height of the tree affect how much a tree removal project will cost?

Peterborough is blessed with a great deal of mature forest. For larger trees, there will be categories like pine and oak trees, and they range in height between 60 to 100 feet. Costs for 60 to 100 feet will certainly be high as specialized equipment will be required.

For medium trees between 30 to 60 feet and trees such as crab apple, black alder and so on. The costs will be lower but there are always other factors to look at.

Beyond the height of a tree other factors to consider that impact a tree removal project include, the age of the tree, the location of the tree and the health of the tree. All these factors play a part in pricing out a tree job in Joliet IL.

  • What is stump removal?

Stump removal is the after task when a tree has been cut down, and its stump stays on the ground. You can use the stump for a purpose (decorative) or have it completely removed.

Our recommendation is always to see if the stump can be removed, however, if it is a very large tree that has been in existence for a very long time, the roots may have spread to a large area underground and removing the stump may be problematic involving damaging your entire lawn.

On the flip side leaving a stump potentially promotes the rotting of the stump over time with insect infestation. In addition depending on where the stump is located it may damage your lawn equipment when doing lawn maintenance.

We always recommend to our clients to ensure they let us know if stump removal is required as it is not normally part of the tree removal process as additional specialized equipment is required to complete the work.

  • What is stump grinding and do I need this service when removing a tree?

Stump grinding levels the tree stump to the ground and is the most common way to remove a stump left after a tree has been cut down. Using a powerful stump grinding machine that cuts and grinds away at the stump. Grinders range in size from very simple ones to large truck sized stump grinders for complex jobs.

  • Why should a tree contractor not use spikes while pruning trees?

Spikes for climbing usually have sharp steel edges that can be attached to the climbers’ leather straps and gives padded support. A tree remover  must not use it on a living tree as it can severely damage the tree trunk.

Every puncture from the spikes can bring potential for disease and infestation of the tree. An alternative to spikes is using a bucket truck for a tree technician to access a tree for pruning, tree cabling and bracing and branch cutting.
